# Creating Spotlight Posts

## Share news, announcements, and updates with families through the Family Portal.

Spotlight gives you a dedicated place to share news, announcements, and updates with your families.

You can publish posts to your entire customer base or target specific students, classes, or seasons. Families can view your posts in the Family Portal and receive a notification when a new post is published.

Spotlight is ideal for sharing updates that don't need to be sent as a chat or email, such as studio announcements, upcoming events, reminders, or general news.

### Create a Spotlight Post

1. Go to `Communication` from the left-hand menu.
2. Select `Spotlight`.
3. Click `New Post` to create.
4. Under **Post details**, add the following:
     - Title (not required) – Enter a title for your post.
     - Content – Add the message or information you'd like to share. You can enter up to 5,000 characters.
5. Under **Media**, you can add images to your post.
     - Images (.png and .jpg files) can be up to 10 MB each.
     - Images are cropped when displayed in the Spotlight feed.
     - If you add multiple images, you can drag and reorder them. The first image will be displayed as the cover image.
     - The maximum number allowed in one post is 10.
     - Uploaded media will be stored for a year.
6. To keep the post at the top of the Spotlight feed, turn on `Pin post`. Pinned posts remain at the top of the feed even when you publish new posts.
7. Under Recipients, choose who should see the post. You can either:
     - Post to everyone - Send the post to all families.
     - Choose recipients - Select specific students, classes, or seasons/terms.
8. When you're ready, you can either:
     - Click `Save as draft` to continue working on the post later.
     - Click `Post` to publish it immediately.

📝 All selected recipients will be notified when the post is published.

📝 If you send a Spotlight post to a family that doesn't yet have a Family Portal account, they'll receive an invitation email so they can register and view the post.

### Managing Spotlight Posts

After publishing a post, you can manage it as needed.

You can:

- **Pin or unpin** posts.
- **Edit** posts.
- **Delete** posts.
- View the number of **views and likes** on each post to see how families are engaging with your updates. The **Recipients** table also shows the number of times your post has been viewed.

You can also manage multiple Spotlight posts at once. Select the posts you want to update, then choose to **Pin**, **Unpin**, or **Delete** them in bulk.

---

### What Families See

Published Spotlight posts are available to the selected families in the **Family Portal**.

Families can view your updates in their Spotlight feed and will receive a notification when a new post is published.

---

Spotlight gives you a central place to share updates with your families, without relying on separate social media or messaging groups.
