Understanding Skills Tracking

Create skill tracking standards, monitor student progress, and share their achievements with families through the Family Portal.

Skills Tracking helps you monitor students' progress against a set of skills and statuses.

With Class Manage's Skill Tracking, studios can create their own customised skills, levels, and standards, or add regulatory bodies.

You can create your own standards, organise skills into levels, and update students' progress as they develop.

You can also choose to make Skills Tracking visible in the Family Portal, allowing families to see their student's progress without being able to make changes. (This option is available once the standards have been added to a specific class).

📝 Skills Tracking can be used with both regular classes and Drop-in classes.

How Skills Tracking works

Skills Tracking is made up of standards, statuses, levels, and skills.

  • Standards - Create a standard for the skills you want to track.
  • Statuses - Define the different stages of progress, such as Confident, Ready to Grade, or Passed. You can create, edit, reorder, and remove statuses.
  • Levels - Organise your skills into different levels. You can add, edit, remove, and reorder levels.
  • Skills - Add the individual skills you want to track within each level. You can edit their wording, reorder them, or remove them.

You can update your standards at any time. Changes to a standard will automatically be reflected wherever that standard is being used.

Add Skills Tracking to a Lesson

Once you've created a standard, you can add it to a lesson from the Class Planner.

When a lesson doesn't have Skills Tracking set up, you'll have the option to add it. You can either create a new standard or select one you've already created.

Once Skills Tracking is active for a lesson, you can use it to monitor and update students' progress.

Track Student Progress

With Skills Tracking, you can see how each student is progressing through their levels and skills.

You can:

  • View the current level and status for each student.
  • Update individual skills or statuses.
  • Change a student's level.
  • Mark all skills as a particular status when appropriate.
  • See which students are ready to grade or have recently passed.
  • Update Skills Tracking from the relevant lesson or directly from a student's profile.

You can also optimise the 'notes' feature in Class Manager to make notes about the specific skill, student, lesson or class.

Share Progress with Families

When creating a Skills Tracking standard, you can choose whether to make it visible in the Family Portal.

If enabled, families can:

  1. Log in to the Family Portal.
  2. Open their student's profile.
  3. Select Skills Tracking.
  4. View the student's levels, skills, and current progress.

Families can view the information but cannot make changes to the student's Skills Tracking.
